Not Next in Line. Unlike many politicians who got into Illinois government because they were next in line, Scott was not next in line. Before running for office, Scott was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Chicago. In that job, Scott saw the worst in Illinois government and said “we need to change this.” Scott chose to change Illinois government from the inside, and successfully ran for State Representative in 2012.
Honest, Trustworthy, Independent-Minded. Scott has developed a reputation for honesty, trustworthiness and being an independent thinker with a proven record of fighting for the public – not politicians or special interests. Scott knows that standing up for what’s right can never be wrong and that true progress requires a break from the past. Scott has received widespread recognition for his legislative efforts and been awarded for his leadership in the area of criminal justice reform.
Didn’t Vote for Madigan. Scott is the only Democrat in 30 years not to vote for Mike Madigan for Speaker of the House. This is one of many examples of Scott putting people ahead of politics, even when people warn him of the possibility of negative consequences.
Born and Raised in Illinois. Scott currently lives in Highwood with his wife and two children. He is an adjunct professor of law at Northwestern University’s law school and practices law in the private sector.
